What's behind the old siding is the real job
Siding is a rain screen, not a seal — the water barrier behind it does the actual work. When we strip the old siding we find out what's really been going on: soft sheathing under windows, rot at the bottom plate, wrap that was never taped, or in a lot of older homes no wrap at all. All of that gets fixed before new siding goes on. Siding over rot just hides it while it spreads, and it's the single most common corner cut in this trade.
Housewrap and flashing, done to spec
New woven housewrap lapped shingle-style so water sheds down and out rather than behind, seams taped, and every window and door head-flashed and integrated with the wrap. This is unglamorous work that nobody will ever see, and it is the difference between a wall that stays dry for thirty years and one that quietly rots.
Material choices, honestly compared
Fiber cement (Hardie and similar) holds up best to Gulf Coast heat, humidity and impact, and it's what we recommend for most homes here — it costs more and it's worth it. Vinyl is the budget option and modern vinyl is far better than its reputation, but it can warp in extreme heat and takes damage from impact. Engineered wood sits between the two. We'll quote what you ask for and tell you plainly what we'd put on our own house.
Trim, soffit and fascia
The siding is only as good as what wraps around it. We replace rotten fascia and soffit rather than painting over it, and detail corners, windows and rooflines so the finish reads as intentional rather than patched. Where we're already up there on staging, fascia and gutter work is dramatically cheaper to include than to come back for.
